All STEM degrees are eligible for OPT. OPT stands for Optional Practical Training. OPT is temporary employment that is directly related to an F-1 student’s major area of study. Eligible students can apply to receive up to 12 months of OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies (pre-completion) and/or after completing their academic studies (post-completion)

Does Clarkson require the SAT or ACT?Clarkson continues to be test optional. Application materials required will be two letters of recommendation, official transcripts and a personal statement.

What if my high school used a pass/fail grading system? Is that OK?We understand that many schools are using the pass/fail grading system. When reviewing applications, our admissions team is reading your application holistically. We look at course load, course type, letters of recommendation, and all four years of high school to gain a better academic picture of the applicant. Pass/fail will not negatively impact your application to Clarkson!

What are the career opportunities available for an international studentOn-campus part-time employment for international students is limited, with ARAMARK, the food service provider, being a common employer. Students typically work 8–10 hours per week at New York State minimum wage, with a maximum of 20 hours allowed under F-1 visa regulations. Off-campus employment, including internships and co-ops, requires F-1 visa authorization. Graduates can pursue 12 months of post-degree employment, with an additional two years for STEM graduates. The International Center provides support with the necessary documentation for off-campus opportunities.

Tell me more about the on-campus activitiesClarkson's Potsdam campus is home to approximately 4,600 undergraduate and graduate students, fostering a close-knit community atmosphere. Beyond academics, students engage in over 200 clubs, organizations, and activities. The scenic location also offers opportunities for outdoor adventures such as hiking, skiing, biking, and more.
